In “A Team” we see a girl leading a hard life, struggling to stay afloat. She does whatever it takes to fuel her addiction and pay the rent. She is even driven into prostitution and forced to live a life of loneliness and misery. Her loss of innocence is shown through the harsh reality of adulthood and living in the real word as an independent person struggling with addiction.
Similarly in the film “Boyhood” we see a boy growing up and the process of coming of age. Along the way he is thrown into many different and somewhat unpleasant situations. For example his mom had him had at a very young age and his parents separated. As he continues to age he has two additional different father figures both of which were alcoholics and somewhat abusive. He is also introduced to things in high school such as sex, drugs, and alcohol. We also see him get a job at one point to help earn money. We see him loose his innocence in several different ways whether it’s through his parents, adulthood, or teenage life, it is a clearly present theme throughout the plot.
The two mediums are very similar in that they both show how living an adult life and having to support oneself can cause a great loss of innocence and lead to a life full of struggles and hardships.
Finally I chose “Boyhood” because it is a relatable story of a boy growing up in Houston and “A Team” because songs messages are often easy to comprehend and often relatable. I may not be standing on the street corner to fuel an addiction to drugs but I sure will do almost anything for a Louis Vuitton wallet.
