My overall opinion of the book was a very positive one. I thought it had many great universal themes and truths. The theme other than loss of innocence that really made me enjoy the book was the theme of man against nature. Also I loved the different perspectives and the plot.
Man against nature is a commonly recurring theme throughout the novel. We see this throughout the novel when man tries to bring back something that is long gone. Scientist are bringing back dinosaurs by using the DNA they find with that of frogs and the whole plan brings worries. We see this when Ian Malcom says, “Life breaks free. Life expands to new territories. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But life finds a way”. (Michael Crichton 160) Also before any of them even knew much, Malcom talks about how “there is a problem with [the] island…” and that “…it is an accident waiting to happen”. (Michael Crichton 84) This act of going against the way of nature also leads to the attack of the characters by a tyrannosaurus. We see how this act can lead to danger because of the attack and how the characters feel about it when Malcom says, “You know, at times like this one feels, well, perhaps extinct animals should be left extinct”. (Michael Crichton 189)
Another reason I loved this novel was its entertaining plot and its many different perspectives. For example many of the Dinosaur attack scenes are from the point of view of Tim, a young 11 year old boy who is very knowledgeable about dinosaurs. The story was also never slow and I could hardly ever put it down.
I loved the Novel “Jurassic Park” and its well written plot and different point views. Also I would recommend this novel to anyone because it has so many good themes and lessons to be learned.
